Angry X3 And Trailer Hitch Electric Brakes Wiring

I haven't seen this one anywhere on the site. Let's see if you guys can do what the dealer says they can't find

I'm installing the hitch this weekend. Have the hitch, Diffuser, impact absorber, wire harness, and module. I have a Prodigy brake controller to use. Problem is, after I finish all the install of gear, I don't see a "blue" wire on the harness, and have not torn into the driver kick panel yet to see if it is in there. I know how to do everything else, just can't figure what wire to use on for the E-brakes on the trailer. (the controller is coming out of the jeep I'm getting rid of.)

So guys, I did call the dealer and BMW USA, both were no help. I"m really don't want to run that wire from the back to the front, so I'm hoping BMW ran the wire knowing that in CA. you have a 1500 lb limit that you must have E-Brakes.

By the way, that photo DIY hitch manual that everyone links to, is pretty nice, just no info on E-Brakes after you hook up the module.

Hope someone has experience with this??

***Update***

It all fits, now I just have to figure out where the 12 volt output is under the dash that controls the E-Brake Controller, then wallah!

Did you install your hitch on Sport Bumpers ? (M)
If so, do you have a part number and also, is the impact absorber you mention necessary or do you use the existing impact absorber in the bumper? My dealer is hopeless at figuring this out for me....

Parts required for MY2007+ M-Sport bumper. All info sourced from RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog and Jason at getBMWparts.com

Hitch 71600035368 $325.00

Removable Ball 72110303879 $34.00

Diffuser 51133433424 $46.18

Impact Absorber 51123414411 $18.98

Trailer Hitch Flap 51123414413 $20.86

Clamp x2 51127070204 $0.63 each

Clamp x10 61131356086 $0.20 each

This completely replaces the lower black insert with the reflectors with a new piece that has a cut out for the hitch receiver to go through. I think that the reflectors may be reused or not used at all. I hope that they are reused, but I have yet to purchase the hitch as I need other accessories first.

Thanks for this Dan,
Interesting though as I took the schematic in from realoem.com and when the parts girl entered my VIN into the computer it brought up completely different numbers than what the schematic portrayed. The schematic shows the diffusor as 6 yet the BMW computer showed it as 4, which according to the schematic does not show a notch where the hitch would fit through....
In any event, she ordered and I'll see on Monday if it is the correct one! I do have my doubts though...

Wow, the prices you show are a lot better than the OEM hitch I got. They dinged me $498 for the hitch kit! The ball was $50.50....

Nice

I'm starting the install this afternoon, so will take pics along the way.
Will give the dealer a call and try and sort out diffusor part no's.
Cheers

My hitch was the same part number (71-60-0-035-368, which replaced the old 303-878 number) and it was $426.50 at my local dealer. The removable ball was $47.50 I decided not to bother with the impact absorber, and I didn't need the diffuser or flap as I don't have the sport package; mine was the most straightforward of the four different options the book showed.

I checked with my dealer again and they have apparently ordered the right part...
So, on Monday, when the parts arrive, I should have a diffusor which fits nicely around the hitch receiver. The parts guy also ordered the flap just out of curiosity. I'm not commited to it.
He recommeded not getting the impact absorber as the existing piece behind the bumper should suffice, although may need some cutting.

Will start the project in a few hours...

I did mine just recent, I dismounted the Bumper and the Black insert with the two reflectors which I liked, from the rear I cut the marked area for the Hitch with a Jigsaw
use a plastic cutting blade, then I marked the cutout on the lower removed Black insert and also cut it out, be carefull not to break it in the center apart , just support the piece in the center with the cut out and brace it before you re-install back into the Bumper, looks great

and I am glad I did not use a Dremel tool as recommended by others I love the Job I have done and it looks perfect with the two reflectors, plus saved $.

good luck with your's Kuddel

OK, Installation went without any problems (will post a few pics later) But now I am trying to figure out the diffuser. Thought it would be seamless to install but not so...
When I align everything to have a look prior to popping the bumper back in place, it looks as though I may have to cut the bumper to accommodate the hitch receiver.
Any ideas or comments?
