You won't get failures from the differentials, in my opinion. They get additional wear, but differentials are pretty solid.
The failures that have been reported are to the transfer case. Dealer technicians on this site have reported these problems, as well as individual posters. No warning lights were evidenced, it was just accumulated stress on the transfer case over time.
