Belt Drive-Vibration - X3 2.0d

Hi there,

I had a problem with my air condition last week when my wife noticed that it was not working. After checking up the engine, I noticed that the air-condition belt was laying on the engine's protective cover, ntact without any sign of breakage!!

I took it back to the BMw dealer to check, and they put back the belt (it is a bit difficult since 2.0d has no pre-tensioner for the belt) and now the clima is working ok.
Although I noticed a noice coming from the engine, which was disappeared as long as I was driving the car without the belt. I was hearing that noice even before and thought it was a std BMW diesel engine noice but I was wrong!

I think there might be a problem with either the belt or the Vibration damper (see attached image - no 1 accessory)
Replacing the belt is quite easy and cheap but replacing the Vibration damper is quite high ( $388.48 at realoem.com)

Anybody had the same problem so I could avoid paying money for nothing? The noice though is quite irritating!!
thx
Jordan
