3.0d 160 Kw Engine Cover Removal / Rear 2 allens Keys
Thank you for the info on this forum . I have a 2007 3.0d X3 160 Kw which has a engine cover that has about ( I think ) 8 allens keys screws in it and 2 of which are located under (I think its the pollen filter behind the strut brace) how do you remove remove these last two screws ? do you have to remove the entire pollen filter and if so how do you do that ? are their any detailed instructions to do this ? I have a chip to install and need access under the engine cover I have attached a pic of the engine cover as well. Cheers to all |

You have to remove the air filters and black plastic cover that runs across in front of the windshield. I haven't taken my x3 apart to be able to give you specific directions but I have taken my 530i (e60) apart quite a bit. There should be a couple screws near the front on either corners and then there will be a bunch of plastic lock nuts that you have to turn to unlock.

ozzielad, how did you go with this? I have a 2006 and cannot imagine the cover being much different?. For my 2006 once all the visible screws are removed including the two near the strut brace, pop the cover up near the oil filler then slide forward. ie I have no screws under the pollen filter assembly. I admit it is a pain to seat the cover when replacing it - you have to position the tangs on the rear of the cover back in the slots under the pollen filter assembly but a torch helps. Once done then a push down to seat the clip near the oil filler and 4 bolts and done.
