I just tried to do a Conversion.... baked the headlights and all.
I had an e46 angel eye kit and aftermarket bi-xenon projectors from The Retrofit Source online: headlight upgrades for all applications and tried to swap them over.

The projectors fit fine but when you remove the clear plastic lens there is a black housing that is attached.
This housing covers the area around the headlight bowls. Without modification, if you fixed the angel eyes around the headlight bowls, the black housing covers them up
