2012 X3 - Transmission Malfunction in cold weather

Hello all,

My new to me F25 (71k miles) has a gremlin when left outside overnight in cold weather here in MN (under 30f)

When I go to drive, it will not engage in drive or reverse, but revert back to park. No errors, no messages etc. If I push the auto hold button and then try to engage drive, I get the 'Transmission Malfunction' on the display. If I turn off, on the car it will engage without issue and drive.

No other issues like poorly running engine, poor shifting etc. It runs and shifts perfectly once I restart the vehicle.

Am I looking at a sensor, moisture somewhere?

Doesn't appear to have any issues beyond an annoyance, but would like it to not happen if my wife uses the vehicle.

Thanks.
