2011 N52 belt/ tensioner replacement fail. What did I miss?

Yesterday I replaced the tensioner and drive belt in my wife's 2011 F25 with the N52. The belt was riding towards the edge of the old tensioner and mileage was getting there so it was due. The replacement went fine and when I started it up after the job was done it looked great. No noise, and everything riding in the middle of the pulleys. Today though, roughly 20 miles after completing the job the belt shredded. I'm a bit at a loss for what I might have screwed up and the new tensioner still spins normally by hand. Did I just get unlucky or does anyone have gotchas I didn't think of?
