Don't get me wrong, the new turbos are great and thrifty and will save the polar bears but the sound and zing of BMW's trademark NA inline-6 has its appeal. Kind of like how the new 8-speed AT is better than the 6MT in every way, but the latter still has its appeal.
Hey, I miss my Peugeot 203 with its hand-crank override on its windscreen wipers (for when the wiper motor failed), but we all have to move on. No doubt BMW will continue to make in-line sixes in the future but the chances are they be forced aspiration.

Hey, I miss my 1997 Morgan +4 with the foot-operated valve that took oil from a pressurized gallery and sprayed it on the sliding pillar front suspension. There was a warning not to do it for too long at a time, since it dropped engine oil pressure. It also dripped all over the garage if you did it just before you got home, but if you did it when you just left it was on a cold engine. I agree we all have to move on.

And my 535i is very free revving.

Yup, I also agree.......gotta move on. Will miss the older stuff too. I have the 2003 BMW M brochure to remind myself of the good ol' days, including the E39 M5.

Sometimes I wish I was born a bit earlier. The 90s was an exciting time to grow up but I wish I could have experienced the earlier decades, particularly the 50s.
