Sorry if I missed this in this multi year thread, but what is the difference between an X4 and an x drive 3 series GT? They appear to be very similar.

Big difference is ride height, rest are visual differences. X4 is around 6" higher. Also GT has little more luxury style.
From what I originally heard about BMW thought process behind GT series is that it is for people who feel that regular cars are too low for them and SAV/SUVs are too high for them. So GT is the compromise between the two.

Regular 3-series height - 56.3"
3 series GT height - 59.3"
X3 height - 66"

3GT you can drive up to 9.8" deep water.
X4 you can drive 19.x" deep water.
