Tasteful exhaust note change

Hello all So I'm currently on my second X5, both of which I've simply deleted the resonator and installed an x-pipe in it's place, and while it helped a little, I'm looking for a little more. I did Magnaflow 14816's on my 740iL and it's about as close as I can get to sounding like the B&B Triflow that I heard on an E39 M5...no drone, none of that popping crap on deceleration, nice at idle and beefy under throttle.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30kfQ4wAcAo - this sounds like complete ass to me. I can't imagine how this sounds inside. Too much noise w/o the actual speed to go with it...very Honda-esque.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvOsODR1pTY - this actually sounds nice and beefy, much like the $400 Magnaflows on my 740iL (my engine obsviously doesn't rev as fast but the note is a mirror image with mufflers only) without paying B&B's $1350 prices.

I've looked around for exhausts for X5's, but they're few and far between and/or extremely overpriced. I was doing Google searches for simple tip upgrades (I like the quad, I just want tips that completely fill the opening within the bumper) and came across these - BMW X5 (E53) DIESEL/PETROL STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST BACK BOX TIP TAIL PIPE x2 | eBay Seeing this is a global forum, has anyone tried these on a 4.4i engine? If so, have you done anything else to the exhaust?

Why not do a 4.8iS axle back? Made a difference on my M54, and I didn't even delete the resonator yet.

B&B makes a nice axleback too but its around a grand.

I've got the 4.8 exhaust on my 4.4 and it does the trick. It's factory stuff, so heavy and still restrictive, but it never ceases to turn heads inside the cabin and from people outside. I really like it.

When it's in Sport (or Manual mode for that matter), the shift points are at the right notes for the exhaust and it's intoxicating. My wife thinks I'm weird, but the kids love it . If I have the choice I take the X5 out over the 535i purely for the sound.

Hey LVP - how much would this run and what parts needed from a 4.8?

I couldn't tell you. The previous owner made my 4.4 look like a 4.8. Even swapped out all the interior trim. You would have to find the exhaust at the wrecker, but I suspect that would be it. Should plug and play, but do the homework.

I've heard about people doing that, but I didn't really know they were that different. 4.8's are rare as is, so I'm sure even a wrecker is gonna ask an arm and leg for them.

4.8iS exhausts can be bought for about $400 a lot of times. I paid just $400 CAD for my awesome condition exhaust pipes and still have my dual top 4.4i exhaust to sell/reuse 😊
