X5 is Driving me insane

So I have an 02 3.0 x5. Truck is awesome. No shortness of power. Nothing weird except a whistle that has been there for quite some time. Can't quite figure it out.

I have scanned it and the codes p0173/p0313/p1092/p2096

I've replaced a TON of stuff doing maintenance. Disa valve. Plugs. Intake boot. Pcv system. A ton of stuff.

For some reason, this damned check engine light will not go off. The whistle is still there no matter what I replace.

Any thoughts???

Whistle Tip in exhaust? jokes....

Describe the whistle, external/internal, rise with revs or constant, sound at high cruising speed (eg wind noise).....

Speaking of whistles....hey Smokey - does your turbo whistle very loudly? Mine seems louder than I recall previously - certainly noticeable with the window down - but maybe I'm hearing things...

The whistle rises with revs. I have read about the intake manifolds cracking so I'm thinking that could be it.

Hmm. That would explain the CEL but you should also be experiencing some pretty rough running if unmetered air is entering down stream of the MAF. But sounds like at this stage you're willing to investigate any possibility......so....

You probably won't be able to hear it by free revving the engine with the 'hood' open. You may be able to hear some air escape if you rev and snap off the throttle, but if it's in the manifold itself post T/B then probably not.

You'd need to load up the engine to replicate driving conditions. Best way to test that I can think of is to take the engine cover off, get someone in the car, in gear with the handbrake on and the foot brake on in D, and stall it up on the converter and see if you can hear the manifold sucking air. Obviously point the car towards an open area and don't stand in front of it while this happening......

Ant - will send you a PM
