Weatherstrip at top of windshield

The rubber weatherstrip that runs along the top edge of my windshield has dried up - can anyone tell me if this is the correct part number, #1 in the diagram?

RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 3.0i Window mounting parts

Thanks

That's the one. If you click on the camera figure on the right of it, you can see a larger pic of that piece.

Have fun replacing it - there is a good video on youtube that explains the process.

My tip is to use LOTS of dish washing liquid. It takes some muscle.

This.

I replaced mine, and it takes lots of lube and patience. Don't rush it, or you'll booger it up...

Mine came off like hot knife through butter.

Yikes - I thought this was going to be a two-minute fix.

The problem people refer to is that if the glass was replaced, then it might take some time to come out. Also you have to watch out for the metal strip piece. Itll crack the edge of the glass

Getting it off is easy, it's getting the new one back in.

I tried pushing it through from one side like the video suggested. Got to about the last 6 inches and couldn't get it on any further. Had to pull it off and do the 'wedge' method which runs you the risk of chipping/breaking the windscreen.

I used a wood shim that you use to shim door frames. Just took my time and moved along the top tapping it in. Worked like a champ.
