pricey X5's in AUS

hey guys,
what's the go with huge price differences of x5's in different countries?

here in australia u can get them from

$ 80,000 3.0i in man, add $2000 for auto
$ 81,700 3.0d in man, add $2000 for auto
$110,000 4.4i in auto
$155,000 4.8is in auto!

why is it waaayyy cheaper in the US?

Since they're made here, we don't pay any customs/tariffs. That's gotta be a big reason.

Yup. Luxury tax, on the road tax and not being build in Australia ....
Just look at the prices for an Audi RS4 (+170.000), RS6 (+220.000) or M5 (+250.000) ..... Not the place to consider driving an expensive euro car, but than again Australia has a lot of other good things going for it (people, outdoors, cost of living, etc...)

B&DCalgary is on a distinguished road
In Canada a 4.8is will run you in the $100,000 + CAD range, which is about $91,000 US and up.

Duty isn't a reason for the price difference because I'm certain there are no duties between Canada and the US on newly manufactured cars (that was true even before NAFTA). About 50% of "American" cars and trucks are actually built in Canada and then cross the border to the U.S. duty free and the same in the reverse due to the interconnected economies and long standing tariff agreements for certain industries.
