My buddy was parting out his 4.8iS which was totaled, I bought the axle back off him. You'd have to find one used, he gave me a sweet deal though I will say. Only mods needed were the flanges from the 3.0 exhaust have to be swapped on the 4.8 axle back sections as they are different, but that should be easy for any muffler shop to do. Hangers, etc are all the same.

Well I just got back from my local dealer to go over warranty work. It turns out that at 27k miles the transmission was replaced. So there is only 62k miles on this tranny. Not bad.

And it turns out the entire cluster was replaced at 18k miles as well. Bad pixels I guess.

This one is turning into a keeper thus far.

Someone went though a manual trans within 27k? I remember my first time driving stick, and it didn't end that poorly.

^^^Thought same thing. either way I guess it's been ok since then.

I've driven about 250k miles on manual transmission since I started driving, between 3 cars, never did anything to the vehicles except change the MT fluid, and adjust shift linkage on one car. Never had a clutch or internal MT problem, all were on original clutches which never had any slipping when i sold them

Not sure all the reasons they replaced just that the warranty notes say that first gear was making a loud whining sound. Good ol BMW replaces tranny's instead of repairing them. That was the first owner that got it done. He sold it at 48k miles and then I got it from that owner at 89k.
