Newbie and some phone stuff for UK owners

Hi everyone, great site and forum!

Have owned a black 2002 3.0i sport for a few months now. Loving it so far.

When I bought the car it came with the GSM phone prep but no phone.

It only takes a Motorola V50 so I bought one for £30 off ebay, then called Motorola who put me in touch with:

Total Repair Solutions
32 Fountain Drive
Inchinnan
Renfrew
Renfrewshire PA4 9RF

Tel: 0141 812 1111

I sent the phone to them plus a cheque for £60 and it came back loaded with the BMW software (meaning it now switches off when the car is off and doesnt run the battery down) - much cheaper than the £300 for the phone pre-loaded from BMW!!

Took quite a while to find this out so thought this may save someone else the bother!

Like I said, loving the car despite its two trips to the dealer for warranty repairs (condensation in two sets of headlights, faulty PDC and self lowering windows!!)

I think you have to do it through motorola - I searched to see if you could do it yourself but couldnt find anything which said you could.

Love your 4.6 - if petrol wasnt so goddam expensive in the UK, I would have bought one!
