Michelin Latitude Tour HP?
I put in new Turanza's at 39k and now at 53k it looks like the rears (285 45 19's) will need to be replaced soon. Anyone have Lattitude Tour HP's? How are they?

TireRack has a lot of good info on their website. Here's a direct link to the Michelin Latitude Tour HP tires. There are tabs that will give multiple information...including reviews, specs, videos, etc: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....titude+Tour+HP

whereas, the OE Bridgestone Turanza ER30 lasted approx. 30K, which was the longest lasting tire I ever had on the X5. I just past 100K on the car and I'm already on my 5th sets of rear tires

The Michelin Latitude tires in 285-45-19 have been discontinued. Found this out after installing 255-50-19s on the front last year.
Alignment plays a MAJOR role in tire wear, my X has worn out 2 sets of OE B'stones & 1 set of Hankook Ventus rears (fronts were replaced with Latitude HPs when a pothole bubbled one in Dallas!), in over 190k miles. I found setting toe and camber to minimums reduces wear. Currently running "summer only" tires, Vredestein Ultrac Vortis. WAY more grip then "all season" tires (even in wet, saw 103 mph GPS indicated (on new pavement), during a downpour last month, road trip from FL to TX).

Q, thanks, great minds think alike? I was just browsing that earlier!
Dkl, thanks for sharing your experience. I was browsing tirerack and while the Michelins had some expecting more life from their tires, the Bridgestone Turanza ER30 reviews page had many more complaints regarding short tire life, especially on heavier vehicles like the Porsche Cayenne and X5 owners. Hmmm...

The Latitude lasted a bit longer on the fronts (approx. 25K to 30K), so not too bad. Just the short life on the rears. I may have to go back to summer only tires as well since all-seasons tires in our staggered 19s are getting limited in selection and I'm finding myself going up to the mountains less and less.
T, how do those Vredestein Ultrac Vortis perform in terms of wear? My alignment has been spot on since every single tires I have had wore evenly across!

Ti, I agree. Suspension and alignment seem to be good in this case though, wear is pretty even. Camber and toe is set to BMW minimums front and rear, including the often problematic rear negative camber (got it to around 1.5-1.9 degrees or so at the last alignment IIRC)
Although the inner portion is slightly ahead in wear because of negative camber, the rest of the tire is getting pretty thin all across the width of the tire. No complaints on the wear pattern, but looks like the rears will last less than 15k. Very even but very fast! Looking at Michelin, it seems there is a Latitude and a Latitude Tour HP? To clarify, the Tour HP's 285 45 19's are the discontinued model/size?

The VUVs have only been on around 6 mos/8k miles, just measured tread depth at 3 major rain grooves on both rears, .255 to .265 (over 8/32s, new was 9/32s). Low wear, even with the hot lapping done at Sebring with 5 passengers in the X.
I actually put a dial travel indicator/mag base on the rear and set the lower arm to min length, checked at under 1.25deg. I run 1/3 deg of TOTAL toe F/R (slightly BELOW BMW minimums). Light "on center" feel, X changes direction with SLIGHT steering input at hwy speeds. Makes the X feel lighter! Would not recommend the alignment specs for those who text/drive distracted, wife says the X needs more attention at 60 (with low toe/camber) then it used to at 90 (with higher tire wear alignment). High speed wet conditions, the low toe//camber is AWESOME!!!

I run the Mich Lattitude Tour HP's and LOVE the comfort/quiet ride with nice gripability. Like others have said the rears wear down faster so I can go through two sets of rears before fronts (even tho we're driving an AWD vehicles, I find that weird). I'd definitely recommend them. But I'm curious about the VUV tires myself for next time... the Mich's were kinda expensive. and I've only had a full set on again (4 new) for about 10k kms... but so far, perfect wear.
