funny power door lock unlock issue

Hi Guys,

01 3.0

With the key fob button I can do the following:
lock all doors
Only unlock the two front doors

with the power door lock button in the center consul I can only control the two front doors.

the back two doors both manually unlock and lock

the emergency lights work (since they are in connected to the front)

any ideas on what the issue is? since it does lock with the key fob? I just would like it to unlock without having to reach into the back?

I don't know what that problem is. On mine it will unlock 3 doors and sometimes all 4.

Mine probably has stuck linkage, rust or the electric motor is going. Could be the same with yours.

I thought if it was going how does it lock with the key fob and not the center button?

It could be either the GM3 module or the door lock actuators.

Google GM3 module and there's a guy out there who repairs them.

His website is BMW GM repairs. I asked him about the module (a GM5) in my wife's 2002 M3 and he steered me to the door lock actuator itself. Fixed the problem. Email him your info and he'll point you in the right direction.

Greg from BMWGM5.com fixed my door lock problems last year.
Send him an email and he will ask you about the issues you are having and give you recommendations. He's great and honest. Fair price too!

Try emailing me again. I usually reply within 24 hours if not within a couple hours.

The rear door locks are wired in parallel within the general module so any problem in the module would typically affect both simultaneously. I am not familiar with the actuator assembly in the X5, but, it may require replacement of the entire latch assembly like in the E46 3-series which I am very familar with.

gnehzekul,
Interesting problem. So the rears lock fine, but, don't unlock. Did the problem with the rear doors start at the same time or was it one door then the other. If they started at different times then I suspect the motor in the doors are bad. If they failed at the same time then the module is most likely bad.
