Center Console Cup Holder Sliding Cover - Replacement?

My cup holder is missing the little sliding cover. I bought a replacement cup holder assembly, but I'm not relishing the idea of disassembling the entire vehicle just to install it.

Has anyone replaced just the sliding cover?

I was looking at my new cup holder and it looks like I might be able to work the cover out without breaking it.. I was thinking of soaking it in some very hot water for a bit to make it a little more flexible.

I really don't want to break this one since replacements are pretty pricey.

Unfortunately you will not be able to replace it without removing the complete center console, and then disassembling it a bit more.
If you try to go your way you will probably break the cover.

It is not that bad, you need an afternoon and a guide that is floating around the forum and it can be done. I did it a few months ago.

^^^This. Center console needs to come out, its attached from the underside. Follow the guide on the top of the forum "BMW X5 Tips and Tricks" to a T and its really not bad.

If you are going to replace wood trims, that would also be a good time to do it.
