It has been a long and expensive week for me and the hooptee. I knew I needed the driverside axle for a while but didn't think the vibration from the engine was related because the car would do it in neutral when rolling and in drive. I guess I was wrong. Last Friday, on my way home, the shake got so bad the car was barely drivable. I ordered an FEQ axle through a friends shop because a GKN (OE) was unavailable and had it installed on Saturday morning. On Saturday afternoon I hit a pretty bad dip and the brand new FEQ axle snapped. The way it broke leads pretty much everyone involved in the repair to believe it was both a bit shorter then stock and crap from the second it came out of the box. I was doing about 40 when it came loose and it swung around ripping out my wiring for the level sensor, my high pressure PS hose, AND snapping one of the lines on the steering rack destroying that along with the rack. I withheld judgement on the axle to get it out of the car but it was to far gone to even compare. I don't see ANY way for the joint to have popped out like that if it was the right length and I don't see how it could have been installed wrong but not given me an issue out the gate. Back to the vibration. When the axle was new (for 30 miles lol) the drivertrain vibration was gone but the engine still felt like it had the faint misfire. With the thermostat and temp sensor replaced the car idles and runs smooth as butter. I find it just as hard to believe that was the issue as others but I guess a bad read from the tstat could confuse other instruments in the car. Those are MY findings. ![]() I replaced my engine mounts, PS hoses, PS reservoir, thermostat, temp sensor, and steering rack ![]()

DEFINITELY not what I was expecting. I was on the hunt for those RB's and some different wheels. All that went right out the window.

Only thing to say is OMG. I don't know if this incident can be explained with just bad luck or not! I am also using made in china axles on some vehicles but this disaster made me speechless.
Very sorry man! |
