2003 3.0d auto running issues.

Yet more issues with my x5. My girlfriend was driving it last weekend when the trans fail safe error message came up. She made it home but only in limp mode. After turning the car off and back on the fault was gone but after a short distance the code comes back on. I have just received my code reader 1.4.0. After getting the driver set up I checked the codes. Wow there was a lot. After checking thru them all I cleared the codes and many off them disappeared but there was still a few left. So now I'm hoping someone can help me get my x5 back to its best.

Background on the car is that I have recently started getting a misfire at idle and low revs. I believe this to be injector number 3 but have yet to confirm this. Now the trans fail safe error has came up.

Can anyone help? I've attached the results I got below.

I've also noticed that the button on the auto shifter seems stuck.

I read somewhere that when using the scanning tool, you must connect an external battery charger and ensure your laptop is fully charged in order to avoid voltage drops during diagnosis. Not sure if this is true, but would make sense given how sensitive to power supply these machines are.

Bit more investigations this morning so I have narrowed my fault to fault code 37 (055) Gear check 5. Is anyone able to help me with this fault. Car goes thru the gears perfectly well until safe mode kicks in. There is no certain time that the fault seems to happen. I've been up to 80mph and no faults then the fault has came on at travelling 20mph then 40mph.

I have checked the level in the gearbox while hot with the engine running and in park. When I removed the fill plug there was a lot of oil coming out so I put the plug back in. So it's not low oil level that's causing the problem. I'm running out of ideas what to check next.

Battery tested and all seems good. Charging at just under 14v. Load tested the battery and that was all good.
