WTF, Now hatch lock, and soft close failed

Yea so I go to open my trunk in garage to load car.

Pressed the release bar, heard a funny noise, hatch stayed closed. Pressed it again, hear two ticks, and still closed.

Popped it open via emergency release. Bottom hatch works, top just does the two ticks.

Quickly pulled off the interior trim on top, wires look good, everything connected.

Checked all fuses in trunk, and glove. All good.

Took out the wiper arm, took out wiper motor. Took out latch mechanism.

Latch mechanism in hand, connected to harness, push button, the motor on the units makes two clicks, but won't spin, no matter if latch is locked or not.

Shit.

T50 torx into that plastic gear, pushed it in, spun it, it will unlock the latch. I guess this is the other way you can open the hatch. Now, after doing this, I push the button, the motor spins very fast but seems to smack something internally, and has no effect on the latch. I mean if latch is closed it won't open it, or vice versa.

Can anyone suggest something, or am I in for a new unit?
