mirror problem
the drivers mirror retracts then straight away pops back out again , I suppose this is normal . the passenger one just sits there and does nothing. now I got my daughter today to press the little retract button, and there is no noise from the passenger mirror at all . so I don't think its the gearbox. motor?. any ideas Steve

I've been struggling with the limit switch (lots of threads on this). After a few cycles when I won't seat, it seems to give up the ghost - don't know if a thermal overload is tripped or the computer is trying to protect it or ??. Comes back on its own to give me another chance to fix it. So, while it may be the motor, I am not sure this proves it. All the internal parts are available on ebay now from various international sellers.

im going to have a play at weeken hopefully , i thought if i could hear motor whine but no clickage, then it was gearbox that was at fault , but as i cant hear anything at all, im thinking either wiring or motor, unless the switch is thinking its at its limit and not firing the motor up ,

Limit switch isn't seated or it's arm is snapped or one of the motor housing pins is snapped.

Your LH limit switch is completely missing. You may want to open up the motor assy on LH side to verify no other damage.

But the LH side doesn't have an opening for the switch either - looks like a non-motorized version on the LH side. (and for those of you who always ask, left hand and right hand is from the perspective of the driver, sitting in the drivers seat).

I looked on real oem , for the part numbers, and I cant even see them part number on there. your right it does look like a none motorized mirror , plus if you look carefully , there is only 2 wires going to the actual mirror glass too , there are 4 on the other side?.
no wonder it didn't work strangly if I remember rightly I was getting an error on the bmw scanner , regarding my passenger mirror. cant remember what it was off hand looks like I gotta find a motorized passenger mirror don't it

Here's a pictures of the motorized version with the switch cover removed - there should be an opening for the switch to "see" the motor. I don't see that in your picture. Think someone substituted a non-motorized version.
