Had the dealer "read" the code on the airbag and it's not part of the recall

Did they say anything about replacing it had it been a part even though it was a retrofit?

Got my letter today. It is just informing me of the recall and nothing can be done yet.

Not an E53 owner anymore but....

...I was just at the dealer on Friday. I asked about the status for my E70 airbag recall. The SA said it's going to be a YEAR before they even put a dent in the backlog of vehicles. He also said that because recalled cars without replaced bags cannot be sold by the dealer, they are offering (his words) "stupid low lease renewals" because "they would have no place to store all the unsellable cars, and the 17 inventory has already begun to fill the lots".

Tanaka made a lot of airbags apparently....

BMW NA earlier this summer told me that I should expect a replacement around the end of summer/September/October.

I plugged my VIN in BMWUSA site - it says remedy available. Just for schitz and gigs, called 2 dealers. Both service depts have advised the mothership has not shipped nor ETA on the front DS bags yet

Not totally true. Dealers have no clue and everyone is so disconnected with this whole cluster. My M5 had the recall, first I was told they were doing a temporary fix to meet NHTSA requirements as permanent wasnt available but I had to go in and "register" car so it would be ordered in as they are VIN specific, or so I was told. It took over a month for it to come in. I then get a call 1 week later after "temp" fix was installed that I need another appt for perm fix. Guess what, they already installed the perm fix the first time they tell me after 2hours. Like I said total cluster! The shop foreman came out and told me BMW decided they were just replacing the whole bag vs dealing with temp fix.

And BTW the experience I had with Acura was marginally better but I still had to go in "register" the car so the part could be ordered. I am still waiting on PS recall remedy.

Wow if they are having trouble on current models I can only imagine how much of a priority our decade old + E53's are for them LOL
