Michael!! We meet again, didn't know you had an X5 in your stable! Next time I am in SF we should meet up again.
Sorry about this purchase not working out. Good luck on your quest!

No worries on the purchase, something else will turn up. This just wasn't meant to be. PS: One day, I will learn how to multi-quote! LOL! ![]()

Don't worry about multi-quote on this site... it doesn't work. You have to manually make a post and then edit it with all the other quotes in order to do a multi-quote. It's a real PITA.
Unfortunate state of condition for the vehicle in question. I've driven a 4.6 after a refresh (timing chains/guides) and they pull very well. With 475hp and who knows how much torque it should feel like an E46 M3 at bare minimum...

those pictures of that estoril aren't of the actual car. I would be curious to see the real pictures though.

HP of a 4.6 with supercharger is 451 and TQ is 439. HP of a stock 4.6 is 340 and TQ is 371. A supercharged 4.6 certainly pulls hard, especially over 4,500 RPMs and the seat of the pants feel is a huge improvement over a stock 4.6. I would like have the supercharger and add mods from there unless I couldn't hear the whine.

![]() In my limited experience, it could be a number of things: 1, Open exhaust due to resonator delete could mean the car breaths a lot easier and better however is losing some bottom end torque? The whole back pressure thing is considered an old wife's tale these days, however there is something to be said about exhaust scavenging. 2, Maybe indeed the S/C is "tired" and due to it being installed on the engine with pulleys and all, it is actually compromising the power output of the engine - almost like additional load on the engine itself. Just my thoughts.... I could be totally off base here.

Not challenging your conclusions of the drive of that particular 4.6 at all. Just saying when performing as it should it is a huge improvement over a stock 4.6. My view is the rest of what that comes with the Dinan supercharger kit is what is unique and unavailable. That justifies the sell price. To me 9 grand, even more is a great deal. I got estimates on doing a custom supercharger install. It was over $15,000 with at 4-6 weeks downtime. And the end result would be breaking new ground, so who knows what the performance and reliability would have been. The case was the same when I got quotes for twin turbos. I have Dinan exhaust and it is considerably louder but it is not resonator delete. There is considerable more roar with the Dinan airbox. Both the louder pipes and airbox roar made it initially seem like it wasn't that much faster until my mind could dial that out and confirmed 0-60 improvement. Having electric cutouts, I can confirm there is benefit from open exhaust on a boosted 4.6, but you are correct, that is not always the case depending on the application. Jay can confirm performance and reliability for a Dinan supercharged 4.6. Unfortunately, neither of us own one.
