Is there any damage you could do to the car by doing this and is it normal after you remove the fuse that the traction control light, ABS light and BRAKE light to illuminate?

True for non-Xdrive E53's (1999-2003 model years, US).

You can run it like this for a longer time...

I have ran in rwd mode for about 3 weeks just testing..

Unplug transfer case actuator plug underneath the car, you will only lose DSC function, abs is still active and no brake lights.

Another thing with this is if you are air suspension equipped you will not be able to use the up/down functions, it is intertwined with the dsc/abs system. But it will keep proper height.
