Very Weird Running Condition?

Hey Lads,

So I was out of town on business and my wife was driving the X5.
She texted me a video and said the truck sounded really weird and had stalled on her a couple of times. Here is the shaky video she sent me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZ9G...ature=youtu.be

She stopped using the truck and I got a chance to run it today.
It started up no problem and then burbled quite a bit and I noticed out my window it was belching smoke from both tailpipes. After a few minutes of running the smoke pretty much stopped.

I drove it for a bit and it seems to rev and run just fine and the motor pulls like it always has. The major burbling noise from the exhaust is pretty much gone and it all seems normal again.

Has anyone ever had this happen?
Whats going on that this just inexplicably went away all on its own?

Really appreciate some help as I have to leave town again on Wednesday and I want to have it sorted if I can.

Cheers
Bernie

Thanks Guys,

Trader4 you nailed the diagnosis.
I know because after some research there is a whistling noise associated with the CCV failure. My truck has been whistling like this for some time but I could never figure out why.

Guess I got a new job ahead of me. Like everything on this truck its gonna be a PITA to replace.

gurgling or burbling the ccv is the culpert and sucking oil into the intake , and making it run rough. as from experiance don`t drive it until you get the ccv checked,I almost lost my engine from a screwed up ccv ,my engine hydro locked on me while idling, but I was able to get all the oil out by turning engine over a few times. if I was on the high way I would guarantee you my engine would have been scrap.
thats my 2 cents . (also check you vcg also for leaks)

I am definitely inclined to believe that not only from the symptoms I have read about but also the fact that this seems to be a common issue and one that I personally have never come across with 171K on the clock.

Taking your advice and have already ordered the new valve. It comes with two of the hoses but are there other hoses that I should order since they will probably be dried out at this mileage.

Cheers

Not the original owner so I have no idea if its ever been changed.
Might as well get to it
