Rear Strut Bolt HELP! Snapped or rattled out 2006 3.0
So I noticed a some slop in the rear of my X5 when driving over small bumps, potholes etc.. Low and behold the rear passenger strut is completely dangling!
![]() Heres drivers side for comparison ![]() Im not sure if the bolt snapped, or rattled out or what but what I do know is I referred to realoem.com specifically http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=33_1029 to try and track down the bolt and locking nut.. I ordered 2 each of #21 Hex bolt (33321092870) & #22 Self-locking collar nut (33326760383) to go ahead and replace both sides.. ![]() ![]() To my dismay once the part arrived its a millimeter or 2 too thick to fit! I went back into my Bentley manual to cross reference and this diagram is the same as realoem ![]() But looking at this diagram ![]() ![]() Im starting to wonder if I ordered the lower bolt pictured on the swing arm assembly instead of the bolt and nut labeled #2 and #3 in assembly "A" where the strut attaches. Now referring back to realoem for part numbers I cant figure out exactly where this assembly "A" is located :/ Im not sure if Im looking at it upside down or backwards or what... I thought I was so smart there for a minute but now Im lost.. If anyone has had this problem or can read these diagrams better or has any idea what bolt and nut I need I will be forever greatful!!! Thanks in advance, Phil |

The bolts/nuts you ordered above are for Rear control arm.
The correct parts are below. Get them from local dealer for cheap:

Haha true..
On a smooth road its fine but once you hit a dip, crack, pothole it feels really weird and like the whole rear levitates to the side a bit, a little fishtail like :O definitely doesnt feel like a BMW! lol |

BMW has always designed suspensions with significant camber & toe change thru the suspension stroke (aka, dynamic geometry). Without damping, that undulating (up/down) wheel will pull the rear end all over the place.
A loose shock would be hardly noticeable on a non-independent rear suspension SUV.
