Strange issue after Air Bag Replacement
So after getting the "self-level suspension inactive" message for the first time a few months ago I replaced the air bags with Arnotts and everything was fine for a while. I then put a bunch of heavy stuff in the trunk and drove for 30 mins and the "self-level suspension inactive" message came back. It turned out the fuse had blown this time. I then replaced the fuse after I had removed all the heavy stuff from the trunk and it drove fine for another week with no error message. I then put another heavy load in the back the other day and once again the "self-level suspension inactive" message came up and the fuse blew again. Why is the heavy load causing the fuse to blow? Any suggestions to fix this issue? Thanks! |

I suppose that could make sense that both the airbags were leaking and there was a compressor problem but why then did the fuse not blow when there was a leak since the compressor had to be continuously working to keep the suspension filled with air? The bags don't leak at all now, so it would seem the compressor would have to do less work and the compressor blows the bags all the way up. The weight in the back is the only thing that causes the fuse to blow. Do the new bags need to be calibrated with the car at all?

I think your theory is closer to reality.
![]() For example, if you were asked to hold your arms stretched out in front of you...the amount of time you could maintain that position would significantly change if we added 25 lbs weights to each hand. As well if you were asked to blow into a balloon that was unrestricted...versus placing a 10 lbs weight on the balloon then tell you to inflate it. Adding additional load will always magnify the ability to maintain status quo vs maintaining without restrictions.

That does make sense. I ordered a repair kit off of ebay to repair the piston. I will let you know if that fixes the issue.
