Well if you have never had the trans serviced then now would be a good start. Since the shift goes bad once its at normal operating temp then you may want to have the trans temp checked to see if its within the proper spec. If the trans temp is in the proper operating range then you have other internal problems. You will need a proper diagnostic performed on the trans. Does the trans go into fail safe mode? How many miles on the vehicle?

Transmission symptoms can be misleading as to the root cause. Suggest you take it to a well recommended transmission shop that is familiar with BMW transmission for diagnosis.

Hello! I had such a problem . According to the diagnosis must be an error in the oil temperature sensor. If so , you have to change it . But this is expensive and complicated. I removed it . If interested , then I tell you how .

Have you tried putting the tranny in SPORT mode when this occurs? If you do, does the issue stop or continues to happen?

It's just a suggestion to see if the issue stops when it is no longer in ADAPTIVE mode.

Most likely the bushings in the valve body are shot and needs to be replace. There's a transmission guy on Youtube that is very familiar with these trans and may be able to point you in the right direction as to what is your problem.

This is his Youtube Channel
