^This. Yes the dash has to be yanked but at least you won't have to do it for another 10-15 years at least. Not the best design from BMW for sure. But I would definitely be doing the evaporator at the same time, and anything else not easily accessed.

The only other big part that requires dash removal is the evaporator. Not sure I would consider that preventative maintenance, but something to consider. A leaking evaporator was why I had to pull mine. I think the other parts (heater core, expansion valve) are accessible without dash removal.

It's not an expensive part, but requires recovery of the refrigerant and then refilling.
