e39 sport steering wheel fit?

I tried searching, and I now know an m3 wheel will work, but I was able to get a free e39 sport steering wheel and wondered if it would fit. any help is appreciated!

Yes, an E39 sport wheel will fit BUT make sure you buy a later E39 production wheel. Why? Early E39 cars had a single stage air bag, then switched to dual. From memory the cut-off was March 1999. Consequently, all E53 had the dual system. The connector (clock spring as some call it) is the indicator.

Look at realeom (BMW ETK, i.e. parts catalog) for more. Other forums may help, there is some good knowledge there.

^This and I just sent you pm about it. An E39 facelift wheel is a great find as usually the ones marked "E46 M3" wheel tend to go faster and for higher value.

They are functionally and aesthetically the same wheel as far as I know, found in black stitching and M color tri-stitch, and they both use our round dual stage airbag.
