6000 mi round trip

2002 X5 Sport

6400 mi round trip from San Diego to Wisconsin-Upper Mi (Yooper country) and back. During the 2 week stay lots of sight seeing and visiting friends and family.

Started off with 188,000 miles and change and ended at 194,500 miles and change. Leaked/burned about 1/4 quart of oil. According the cluster I got 23.5 mpg average for the trip. I have all synthetic fluids, new front drive shaft and xfer case chain. The solid feel I got was exceptional.

I got to see what the BMW Experience was, as in service. Coming out of Denver back to San Diego the alternator seized. If it did it in Wisconsin I could have replaced it, but.... From getting a tow truck out to me, and to finding a motel for a couple of extra nights. Schomp BMW (Denver)went out of their way. $1700 for labor and parts. $909 for the alternator. Yes it's high, they had one. Belts and coolant. Coolant leaked into the alternator but with 193,00 and a wear item I figure it's part of maintenance.

I see a newer X5 in the future, something with twin turbos.
