Also, bank 2 is the right side if you're standing in front of the motor right?
I have the 4.8is also, I was worried about my valve stem seals and I got paranoid and ask my mechanic about it , he played around with the setting and I got that code same code,he set it back to the factory setting and it went away.
But what he was trying to do was advancing the timing a little to compensate for the INTERMIDIATE LEVERS that wear on the N62 engines.
It will cause misfire on that head bank on start up , but shouldn't do it once the engine is past cold start when the intermediate levels are advance on cold start .
You can hear it ,pop the hood and You will hear it go through the advance setting.

You just got the X5 right, how was the service record on the car?if I where You I would use a good oil [Castrol titanium ] it really cleans the whole system , also use chevron fuel injector clear better know as techron, and use it every 4k miles.
So basically baby Your baby for a bit and helpful it will clean it self out .
It did for me and all is well now........... the best way to clean the engine is to do the oil change and add the techron and some good fuel[93oct] and go for a long ride.....

Yeah I just got her. She ran good when I first got her but even still in the week and a half I've had her I already replace the differential fluid, transfer case fluid (and reset the adaptations), spark plugs, and ran one fuel treatment.

It runs great and strong but I would really like to get that light to turn off...

it won't clear with the code reader?hopefully the last owner didn't play around with them setting for the timing to hide the intermediate leveler wear...............how many miles?
