What kind of oil do you use?

I hate to start a oil change/ suggestion thread because I know I've seen one already. I used several phrases to search, but the search engine said "oil" was too popular and the word wasn't even included in my search. Thus, an oil change thread.

What type of oil is the best to use? I'm going to have my oil changed today by an indy mechanic and he uses all different brands depending on what you like. But I don't know what I like so I'm seeking suggestions. TIA!

What brands/viscosity does he have on his ~shelf~. Should meet LL HTHS requirements as a bare minimum...

Oil is like religion in forum, so I won't get into a war of words...LOL.

This is what I use:
- Summer 10W30 synthetic, change every 5K or so.
- Winter 5W30 synthetic, change every 5K or so.

I usually buy synthetic from NAPA auto (made by Valvoline from what I was told). When on sales, it is about $3.60/qt.
Or you can get synthetic Walmart brand for similar pricing.

I personally don't want to spend more than $3.50 ---> $4/qt. To me anything more than $4/qt is a waste of money.

I use Mobil1 0-40 in X3 from my ownership in 2013. It was using BMW 5w-30 before that.

My X5 4.8is was on Motul 8100 XCESS 5W-40 for past 5 years by PO. Will likely continue that or may switch, on the fence with this.

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
I use Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 year round in my climate along with an OE filter. $23 a gallon at Walmart. Easy.

What ever is on sale at Walmart. I use the High Mileage stuff because of the added conditioners for the seals and the fact that the X has High Mileage.

+1
Same for me with X5 4.8is Available at Walmart - lowest price provider. I use Mann Oil and Air filters.

Gee, no flame on conversations on what is "Best"?

Mobil1 0W 40 year round. Expensive here, but the best fully synthetic oil around IMO.

I like the 0W-40 from Mobil1 for cost and general availability, with recent rebate promo, that is if I get the 24$ rebate back, I got 10 qts for 26$ (tax and delivery included). I used it with no problems in S52 from 99 M3 and M54 from 03 325xi.

The Motul 8100 XCESS is another story, 10-11$/qt.
