I think BMW always has the wiring installed if part of a main harness (like seat heaters and rear interior floor lights). The wiring should be present somewhere in the mirror, or in the door.

My thinking is that they had mirrors with different wire harnesses. So you might have to get a mirror that has the puddle light wires and then it should plug right into the harness in the door.

I have done half it. I found the extra wires taped off in the mirror housing. The catch is the lights won't work immediately once installed - it requires coding to get it to work.

If you have replaced your side mirrors with ones that have the lights, then all wiring is present and if you have plugged in all wiring harnesses in the door then you should be fully connected but if you are adding the lights to the existing mirrors then you will have to get wires form the lights to the main mirror plug inside the door panel. Once connected then that is correct that you will have to activate through coding in your LCM.
