I just did... and man the smile has not left my face since Thursday...

My new one came with those shades... and we love them. Have to be careful with them because we have a 1.5YO but they provide so much sun shade.

I leave mine up all the time and added the rear window screen as well to reduce sun fade on the interior. The dogs seem to travel better in the shade as well.

RFaber, you'll need to take the door cards and window trims as well as the shades... adn you can get all that for $75???
hell even $75 for all shades would be a steal in my opinion.

If so I'm coming to your picker yards. Calgary is just toooo redic on pickers. they want 1/2 of what it cost new at the stealerships. no deals to be had here

It's a nice mod. Even if retrofitted.

Oddly though E53 shades don't fetch much on fleabay, while 5 & 7 variants go fast!

Personally I wouldn't buy a vehicle that didn't have them. Not only do they keep things cool,
provide some privacy and they make it very difficult for people to see inside.
Only drawback for me in the shade dept. is that the E-53 doesn't have an electric rear shade….

Cool

Yup this wrecking yard (which will go un-named til i get all that i can from it!) said $75 for the door cards, and the screens, the seem to think they never sell! good for me, bad for him! its also the only X5 they have too!
I have a 10 yr old daughter, and she is pretty well behaved in the back, so fidgiting with the screens wont be an issue. Im sure they will get lots of use in summer! I am going to be grabbing the screens and door cards and the window trim (with the cut outs for the hooks) in the next few days. then work on installing them in some time after! need to do some other maintenance first! (and install my running boards !)
I work shift work which allows me to head to these yards when most of the public is not there! this gives me a chance to get to know the guys a bit better, and it might give me some cred too! (the yard i go to most, ive been going there since the mid 80's! they know me by first name!! )

I would LOVE to have the electric ones like the 7 series, but, ive worked on them and they can be a royal PITA! really cool though!! I gather that will be the standard fare for the X7 when it comes out!

I have never used them since I'm in the Seattle area where when the sun is out, we venture out, celebrate and let it all in!

I have them on my 05 X5 and they do reduce the temps and provide privacy in the rear. Adults think they have to unhook them and let then slap into closed position. I have no kids but it HAS TO BE WORSE with little fingers playing with them. The life span with that type of HARSH usage will be SHORT.

If you can not control your back seat users, the install happiness will be short.

I personally love them from a owner perspective.
