Bubbling rust & Rust Perforation Warranty
2005 X5 3.0i sport
It seems like I have endless problem. This rust bubble which started last year is getting bigger. 1) Would this be DIY repairable, should I go to a body shop or buy a door shell? Ebay has it for $350 including shipping. 2) Will this be covered under 12yr Rust Perforation Warranty? Last edited by babyduke; 08-26-2015 at 04:12 PM. |

Rust is like a cancer that spreads... Hard to tell from your pic, but looks like it may have been caused by some damage to the paintwork initially. I don't think this requires a complete door shell replacement and a good body shop should be able to tackle this with relative ease. It's in a high strength area where the sheet metal has been folded and hinge is located, so could require a bit of welding first, but doable IMO.
Can't answer re the 12 year warranty, as that doesn't apply over here... Don't leave it too much longer, or the job will become more difficult/expensive.

100% not warrantied. its not a defect ,its caused by something hitting the door. I was a licensed body man a few years ago for a dealer ship and I would not cover this under warranty. IMHO.
