I re-used my old sensors and haven`t had any issues , I inspected them and they are in awsome shape ,no signs of wear. each to there own though. If they fail I have new ones ready to install that came with the brake kit for the rears.

Honestly just go to a local Auto Parts store Duralast or Bosch are established brands that have been making brakes for 100 years. I got 2 rotors and pads with sensor for around $225.

Rotors are just a piece of hardened machined steel not much variance from your standard rotors. Im a machinist and know steel. Just my opinion. But Over $400 in just parts for one axle is absurd.

I say, get the OE rotors from BMW. They are not that expensive, but will last a long time.

Pads, get the axis deluxe. I love them. Can't wait for the rears to wear down enough so that I can put them there too. My rear wheels are black after a week, while the fronts are clean.

Get in touch with
Craig Hacker at Open Road BWW. Tell them you are from Xoutpost. His prices are crazy good.

fair question about venting/solid...
I have a 2005 and the rear rotors are vented.

Are the rear 4.4 and 3.0 the same diamater? That might be a nice cheap upgrade. I don't know why the 3.0 came with solid dinky rear rotors

I think the question of What rotor do I need on a 4.4 200x? has been discussed multiple times on this form. The vented rears seem to be a bigger fit/performance issue than the material the rotor is made from. It seems weird that the X5 4.4 applications had it both ways when we all know that vented performs better, especially in a V8 application. (Sport vs non Sport?)

ok, so centric high carbon alloy rotors and centric pad sensors from Rockauto with 5% discount and Cool Carbon pads 7560-D681KT (with a few other clearance items) ordered from ECS tuning...
brake job in a few weeks. I'm kinda excited to see if these Cool Carbon pads live up to the hype. I mean the OE brake system is FANTASTIC in my opinion even with factory rubber brake lines...

I would say a Marketing person at AutoZone's HQ determined that "DuraLast" sounded like a word that means it last a long time and ran with it. You are correct that it is all white boxed product, now packaged for AutoZone as the volume has increased to the point that private branding is feasible. Can you say China? As they become more of a player in the auto parts world, more and more manufacturers will sell them products under the AutoZone brand. Their products are 50% better today than a few years ago.
