Why does the 3.0 X5 flood out?

So... what is this sign of?
This is the second time in the past year of owning this car that it has flooded out.
I go to start the car and it fires for about 1/2 sec. (It always fires right up) I start cranking the car and smell gas. This time I tested fuel pressure and have 50psi. While cranking the car it almost starts but doesn't. I hold my foot to the floor and start cranking, after 30 or 40 sec it slowly starts firing on 1 or 2 cylinders then finally hits on all 6.
So whats going on? Do I need new plugs? The cars runs and idles great, mileage is about 20 to 23 mpg.No codes.

You could have an injector or injectors that are sticking open and flooding the cylinder(s).

You can perform a leak down test by connecting a pressure gauge at the rail and see how long it takes to leak down the fuel pressure.

I can put the gauge on for a few days, see what happens. I might throw in a set of plugs in the next day or so. I am in the middle of swapping out a engine in my ML350. I don't like it when I have 2 cars down.

I left my fuel pressure tested on for the last few days. The pressure held good. I spoke with my local BMW mechanic and he recommends new plugs. That's a easy fix, I hope.
