These guys make X5-specific speaker kits:

BMW Audio, BMW iPhone, BMW Speakers, Subwoofers, and more | BSW, BAVSOUND, Bavarian Soundwerks.

ETA: I have no experience or affiliation with these guys. Just have been drooling for a speaker upgrade (especially a better subwoofer) one of these days. And these guys make direct-fit stuff.

The BSW kit doesn't seem to be what it used to be.

I asked a few days ago and they said they will no longer offer Front mid-ranges and Front Tweeters are on back-order.

I'm running the BSW 8" sub kit in the back... and it's definitely 100% better than the stock DSP setup. But I'm used to a 12" Ascendant Audio Havoc... sooooo not sure how long the BSW kit will inhabit the vehicle.

I do like how stealthy it is though. Hell it's so stealthy, that I didn't even realize it was in the truck when I bought it a month ago. It was tuned (and installed) so poorly it made no audible difference. Found it when picking up supplies for the trip back and going to stow them in the cubby.

This is personal opinion, as audio is highly subjective. I only use tweeters with textile domes (usually silk), which includes component setups by Infinity, older Rockford stuff, and some other brands. I stay away from all metallic tweeters as they are all too "tinny" and "bright" for me. All of my customers were very pleased with my installs which tended to emphasize more cleanliness of the music than loudness.

As for the specs to look for, impedance is going to be the only important one and is going to depend on your current setup (factory DSP, base, etc) and how you are ultimately going to drive them... aftermarket amp, etc.

This seems odd. Considering they tout a full replacement kit, but I did notice that their tweeters always seem to be on backorder.

EDIT: Just checked the website and you are right, front and rear midbasses and rear midranges only now, in the "full kit", no tweeters or midranges for front.

And BSW is selling the "full kit" for the same price they used to sell the 10 piece speaker kit for, with a 10% coupon code, a few months ago.

So same pricing, but 4 less speakers. I know where I'm not investing my money anytime soon.

Seems like I received an email from BSW a few months back that they were discontinuing the speakers for e53 and earlier models. They were having their "final sale" on them, and after that it would be regular price for current stock only. My guess is that they sold out of some drivers and their just trying to clear the stock.
