Electric issues are another matter
But to answer your questions, FSR swap made those quirky issues disappear... If you have small hands or a contorsionist, you should be able to swap without dropping the glovebox. Just shove your hand in there, reach it to disconnect and then swap

Don't go cheap on the FSR, the $40 ones off e-bay are garbage (I had 2 fail in under 1 yrs), seller swapped/no charged.
Went with Genuine BMW FSR and no issues in over 4 yrs.

I thought about buying one of the cheaper ones from fcp since them have lifetime warranty. Thoughts?

The bad FSRs I got off e-bay were from Deutsche Parts, I now refer to them as Douche Parts.
Nothing but cheap/knockoff/China made garbage. The info on the MB/Porsche/BMW forums reads like a train wreck. They rate a C- on BBB website. I've posted advice on the FSR recently. Buy either genuine BMW or the OEM part (Valeo). Replace before winter (trust me on this). 15 minutes on a LHD E53.

2002 Euro X5 (E53) 3.0 diesel (M57) 5 speed manual with UUC short shifter. Pre-xDrive NV125 transfer case (chain & gears). Factory Xenon headlights, Spyder LED tail lights Updated vortex crankcase breather. Motorsport dead pedal, factory fire extinguisher, factory first aid kit, factory F&R mud flaps, factory PDC Bilstein B6 shocks F&R Redline oil has replaced "lifetime" fluids (F&R diff, manual transmission, transfer case and P/S). Dimple magnetic drain plugs in all compartments.

I think I'm going to do an experiment. I might order 2 of the cheaper ones from fcp since they have a lifetime warranty on all parts, and keep a spare in the car. I don't really have to worry about winter killing it here though, it doesn't freeze in Houston.
