I also could be oil over flow. Someone in here did have such a problem, and had the dealer change the oil sensor but did not solve the problem until the dealer drain some oil off then problem goes away. If your oil dipstick is closed to full then drain some out see if it make any different. Good luck.

I also have a 2001 4.4i and experienced the exact problem a couple of years ago. The dealer fixed it only after he replaced the oil sensor which is in the bottom of the oil pan (a non-invasive R&R).

I am experiencing the same problem ('01 4.4i). It happens after driving about 35 miles. It comes on and goes off and back on after another 35. And it comes back on when I turn the ignition off. I had it checked when I had the oil changed and all the fuilds, etc. checked. Still happens. Also, in the last week, my indicator comes on telling me my suspension level is inactive. The thing sits in the garage all day! I'm wondering if I may have a computer problem instead. Let me know what you find out about yours. Thanks.

In either case I doubt that you have a computer problem.
Regarding your erroneous "Check Oil Level", your oil sensor needs to be replaced (mine was done on warranty) if your oil level is correct. Regarding the "Self Level Suspension Inactive" warning; my 01 4.4i only (sometimes) gives me that warning when I'm backing my trailer into my back yard and get the loaded rear suspension in a "twist". I believe (in my case) it's caused by the leveling sensors (one on each rear axle) providing the computer with readings which are beyond it's programmed parameters. In your case you may have one of the sensors out of adjustment or they may be indicating that you have one of the air bags leaking (look at the rear of the vehicle prior to starting it to see if it is level left to right). I believe you computer is only the messenger, don't kill it.

There is a TSB for the oil level sensor. It's most likely the problem.
