Warning lights and no speedometer (I have searched)
I have searched and tried the following: Checked the fuses- all were good, so I pulled them and lightly sanded them and put them back. Started the car, turned the wheel all the way to the left, all the way to the right, and off and on again. No luck I replaced the rear driver side wheel speed sensor. I understand that this is the one that operates the speedometer. Still did not fix it. I pulled the ABS module out and shipped it in for a repair. Re-installed and that did not fix the problem. I finally figured out how to install INPA (although it still is in German) and tried to look to clear any codes in the module. Both dots are black for battery and ignition (I have to use the 20-pin cord), which I believe means I am completely connected. I click on Chassis, then the first line and it says no error codes, then when I click on the second module (I believe it is DCX8) in chassis I get the following error code: Group file: D_ABSWP. IFH-0009: NO RESPONSE FROM CONTROLUNIT. Program will be stopped! Any ideas on what I should try next? Any ideas or advice is appreciated. Thanks for the help. |

Looks like your trying to read the dsc module?
There should be a few options in the DSC area. If dsx8 doesn't work, just try another. |

I can read other modules. I have looked at engine codes. Would a different program than INPA be better for looking at the abs module?

I think INPA is the best tool for diagnosing. It's fast and easy. Other programs will also work too and some will feel that the other is better.
INPA was written by bmw engineers to use in the factory setting, so it should be able to do all you want as far as looking and diagnosing. It's even capable of calibration in some cases. If you give more info with screen shots I could further help. For instance, you can view speed sensors through the tranny module. This would tell you your DSC module is communicating with the tranny module and ect. |

When I get home I will hook it up and take some screen grabs of what I am looking at. Any other test I should run than speed sensors? Am I only looking for fault codes in the speed sensors or do you want me to monitor them while the vehicle is rolling?
Thanks for the help. |

Even though you replaced the wheel sensor, I think either the new sensor is bad (hopefully you didn't buy the cheapest one on eBay or Amazon), or the connection is bad or you have a bad circuit.

Yes start with the basics. You can view live data on each wheel. If you don't want to drive, jack the car up and have someone spin the wheels. Confirm all 4 sensors are working properly, and then we can go to the next step.

The laptop I have INPA is old and the battery is on it last leg. It dies once it unplugged for more than 30 seconds. If I go the jack up and spin rout, do I need to do all 4 wheels or should I shoot for the left rear, because that is what operates the speedometer?

Check all 4. If you like check the left rear first...
