Chain rattle

Hey Guys,
Struggling finding info on timing chain issues. Have had a rattle for a little bit and could never locate or work it out what it was. Finally after checking xoutpost I found it to be the timing chain. Have just changed it and still have a bit of a knock. Where would I look at next? The guides or chain or both? I'm not driving it until I've sorted it. Just not sure of next avenue to take. It's e53 3.0ltr petrol. Has about 210,00 on the clock. Thanks in advance guys.

What did you change?

3.0 do not have timing chain guide failures.

Cool deal.

Explain in better detail the knock. Is it timed with the engine revolutions? High pitch low pitch? You sure it's a knock and not tick? Is it coming from the top of the engine or lower section of the engine? Is it coming from the engine?

Well pretty sure it's timing belt as the last tensioner I put a nut under the tensioner spring and made a massive difference in fact completely went away until it was running temp. And even then was only mild compared to original problem

It's hard to explain sound but definitely sounds like a chain

I had a stuck lifter giving me a "tick" (lots of YouTube videos if you want to listen to various sounds). I used Rislone yellow oil treatment shortly before an oil change and it freed it up and eliminated the noise. Has stayed away for 2 years and 3-4 more oil changes.

Also fixed chain guides on my 4.4, but different beast...
