Smoking engine observations

86K on my 2004 N62 engine.
After extended idle, I do get a puff of smoke if I rev the
engine. The first thing I checked and cleaned were the twin
CCV diaphragms. They were clean and no rips.

I have a steep sloped driveway. I normally back in fireman style.
Lately I have been nosing in.
I have found that nose up condition seems to eliminate the smoking.
Conversely, nose down exasperates the smoking.

I can not think of a reason why this would be happening.
Any thoughts?

This is the classic N62 valve guide seal issue, "After extended idle, I do get a puff of smoke if I rev the engine".

The valvetrain area could have better draining characteristics rearward then forward.

Well you've done all the obvious things to eliminate the puff of smoke so all that is left is to remove the heads and send them out to a machine shop for the valve guide repair. Very common repair for the N62 engine. After that you will have your E53 perfect.
