'00 X5 key cylinder broken, key not working. Help me get in!

Hi all
I've lurked on this board for a while, always came on here to solve other issues. But now I'm in a jam. My key buttons were not working, so I've been physically locking and unlocking it with they key. Went to get in yesterday morning, and they key turns left and right, but does nothing.

How do I get in now? I have a second key that I just got cut, but needed to program it.

Thanks

The key cylinder broke. It is a very common issue. Once you figure out how to get into the vehicle you are going to need to repair the lock with a lock cylinder repair kit.

Thanks, I read about the repair kit. I'd like to get in before it arrives though

Breaking windshield seems like cheapest option?

Can you not use a lockout kit with the inflatable bladder and a long stick? The bladder gently prys open the door, the long stick pressed the unlock button on the center console.

Thank you. Had to google it

That should work, but are these easily found in stores? Would a tow company come do it for me?

A tow company would probably be your best bet. They deal with lockouts all of the time, it isn't exactly uncommon.

That in itself doesn't work due to the double locking system our cars use. A locksmith will know the procedure to get into the car, but I don't want to post the steps publicly.
