Passenger seat occupancy sensor

Hi,

My airbag light is working as it should, except when someone is on the passenger seat.
Empty seat all fine, occupied seat the light goes on for seconds, one minute, then out for some time, and keeps like this until the seat is empty again!
Will something like this sold on Ebay solve my problem with the light but keeping the airbag operational?
BMW Airbag Bypass Seat Occupancy Sensor Mat Emulator E46E36E38E39E60E65M3M5Z3X5 | eBay

Thanks for you help.

Regards

That item is meant for exactly as you desire. It makes the car think somebody is on the seat. There is an additional module for seat belt buzzer that I suspect defeats the buzzer so you don't also have to keep pass. seat buckled.

So i've used the ebay seat defeat on an e39 which worked fine but i tried it on the X5 and it doesn't seem to work. Might need to use a reset tool to clear the fault.
In my case though, the airbag light is constantly on, regardless if there is a passenger. But considering the cost of these things, it's worth a try.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer!
Regarding the seat belt buzzer my car don't have one so I'm ok.
My doubt is, because my airbag light only lights up when someone is on the seat, if this item is to make the car think the seat is occupied wouldn't it make the light still go on even with the seat empty??
Sorry about my english...

Regards

Don't know about E53, but in my E39 (1998 528i) I bought the ebay seat emulator for $15 and posted the procedure in thread #6:

DIY: 1998 BMW 528i, Replacing Driver Seat Belt Buckle (Pretensioner) - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums

And yes, you have to use a reset tool to clear the codes.

It just sounds like it's confused. It is "not sure" somebody is there. It knows there is a malfunction. The simulator makes the car convinced somebody heavy is there.

The trade off is the airbag will always be in high power mode so no kids in the front.
