I think that's the issue... the parts aren't "crap." They have a serviceable life like any other part. In this case... most of the cooling system components have about a 100,000 - 120,000 mile life span in the majority of cases (at least here in south Texas) in my experience. Almost all of the cooling system parts are cheap... so if you have to do a complete cooling system overhaul every 120,000 (6 years or more) miles you are looking at spending $2000 total at a shop, or $500 in parts for a DIY'er. You can get much more mileage out of the parts individually if desired and it will be much cheaper... which is what most people do. I prefer to do system overhauls
usually at certain mileages.
^Some may think that is excessive... and some may not. I am in the latter. Some have early failures... some have never had a failure. One (or two, three, four, or a hundred) particular failure reports on forums does not indicate a part's reliability in terms of the overall number of units out there. I am constantly amazed at how many E53's I see running around... so they can't be all that unreliable and full of junky parts.
They can't all be owned by enthusiasts or rich people who can do/pay for the work and parts that are "constantly" failing.
I think that's why you see the hostility Trader. It's not that we are fan boys or anything, but that there is no
REAL reason to call the parts crap. It sucks you've experienced a ton of failures... but had you bought a different X5 it's possible you would have had no failures. Just a thought.
