NGK plugs work well in these BMWs and the only ones that I buy as replacement in my BMWs.

Ngk is the factory recommended plug for m62tu. Bosch is the factory plug for m62 non vanos and m60

There are two versions to choose from the OE one and the upgrade newer technology plug from NGK. I would recommend staying away from all the hyped plugs as BMW tend not to tolerate them.
IMHO I would go with the NGK 6418 BKR6EIX IX Iridium Plug. As it provides a non shrouded center electrode fine wire which tends to provide cleaner tip in acceleration and some fuel economy. Mostly you will feel a smoother idle and the step in acceleration off idle. The 4.8is came with these. I installed the multiple side electrode versions and noticed the idle quality drop off compared to the 40,000 mile old fine wire. I switched back to the Iridium ones and the idle quality came right back on first fire up. Gapping Since the gap size has a direct effect on the spark plug's tip temperature and on the voltage necessary to ionize (light) the air-fuel mixture, careful attention is required. While it is a popular misconception that plugs are pre-gapped from the factory, the fact remains that the gap must be adjusted for the vehicle that the spark plug is intended for. Those with modified engines must remember that a modified engine with higher compression or forced induction will typically require a smaller gap setting (to ensure ignitability in these denser air-fuel mixtures). As a rule, the more power you are making, the smaller the gap you will need. - See more at: NGK Spark Plugs Gap setting .032" Everyone will chip in with other options I am sure.

Bro, for stock BMW's, i go OEM only. All the hype stuff is good on a website, and bad in practice. If fried 4 prong all manner of plug in m60s, only to go back to bosch supers and have the car run like a champ. Unless doing FI, or tons of other mods, i use stock plugs. It's the same when folks ask about headers. Bmw m60 exhaust systems already deliver such a high level of performance and quality, unless several other upgrades are done, augmentation is worthless

NGK iridiums are the only thing I run in BMW's. Which reminds me, it's almost time for a plug change on the X3 and X5...
They don't like +4's or anything special from Bosch. If going Bosch use an OEM replacement, not a +4 or something "special."

. You guys are funny. Bosch plus 4 plugs are the oem reacement plug. If you go have your plugs changed at the dealer, you will get, bosch plus 4 plugs installed. Not saying one is better than the other, but if somebody ask what the OE replacement is, don't tell them what you prefer. |

Your are correct, Bosch has the contract for the 3.0 business and thereby has the dealer replacement business so it shows up in the parts books.
You are not locked by choice to go down that path nor on any other part replacement. The plug technology has moved on just as oil technology, tire tech, wax and the whole electronic world on since our vehicles were engineered. There is no debate from anyone who understands engine management/plug technology that the four prong Bosch or NGK plugs will work as designed. On the butt Dyno the fine wire ones will give you a smoother idle with 2015 gasoline and a cleaner tip in acceleration. Precious metal plugs has been around since 1985 when Champion introduced the H.O.T. Plugs. Bosch responded with multi prong as a marketing tool. Update and be free!
