Just as a follow-up to this thread in case someone else runs across this issue. As was predicted it turned out to be rear shaft related. I don't know exactly what as I went all Dirk Wright "while I was in there." My noise is completely gone and X feels better over all.

I ended up replacing front shaft guibo, rear shaft guibo, rear shaft centering bushing, and rear shaft CSB. Also greased the spines and inputs to the transfer cases on both shafts.

this sound is back for me now. i have to look into it and i think a lube would be nice. may as well do guibos too.

Fingers crossed for you that your rear shaft drops easier than mine, but since you are in the Great White North... prepare to utter some choice language inappropriate for a PG-13 movie. I had a whole thread going regarding getting my shaft off.

I'm just gonna have my mechanic do it same time I have my front wheel bearings being replaced.
